CQC registration and changes

Dear Colleague,

This email has been sent to Leicestershire GP Practice Managers, CCG and LMC colleagues

The CQC has recently been in contact with the Central Midlands, Sub Region to make us aware that there a number of practices that do not have current valid CQC registration. If there are any changes to your current CQC registration the CQC must be informed.

Below are some scenarios of whereby you must notify the CQC of changes:

  • Partnership changes - new partners becoming signatories to the contract or when a partner leaves the contract;
  • Practice relocations - moving to a new site;
  • Temporary premises relocations if for example your regular practice site is being refurbished;
  • If you are caretaking a practice for a temporary period of time you must register with CQC;
  • If you are new provider you must register with CQC;
  • If you are a provider who holds multiple contracts with the NHS Commissioning Board - all contracts must hold CQC registration.

Click here for guidance on how CQC define what CQC registration is.

The CQC are currently compiling a list where they believe that practices may have invalid or no registration. If practices do not have a current valid registration status CQC consider that:

  • Services are being performed illegally;
  • CQC are unable to conduct the CQC visit;
  • Regulated activities should not be carried out;
  • Fines could be imposed by the CQC;
  • Enforcements could be sanctioned.

The Area Team will be contacting the practices that are identified on the CQC list to make the practice aware that it needs to take immediate action to rectify the situation. In mid-March 2015 the Central Midlands, Sub Region will undertake an audit of CQC registration of all practices and at this point if it is found there are instances where practices have not registered with the CQC or their current registration is invalid, the Sub Region will consider contractual action to secure resolution of the issue.
