LMC committee member Dr Shiraz Makda has been selected to join the British Medical Football Team. We wish him and the squad the best of luck as they head off to the USA for the 2015 World Medical Football Federation Championships.
"This time last year I read an article about the British
Medical Football Team as they were preparing for their trip to Brazil for the
2014 world cup.
"I am a keen footballer and given that I live, eat, breathe
the sport I sent an email enquiring about their set up and how I could get
involved.
"Like any post, a CV was required and I was invited for a
trial!
"This was planned for the day after my wedding in December
2014 - wife to be was not too pleased as one can imagine- however an
unfortunate injury rendered me out of this opportunity…
"Nevertheless, I met the team in Birmingham on crutches and
the Coach was sympathetic but informed me that this year another trial would be
occurring in January 2015.
"I managed to recover well post op- ensuring that I was
walking the corridors to greet my patients rather than using the patient
display screen and was ultimately successful in my trial.
"Our team consists of Doctors from across UK- GPs and
hospital doctors. We have a few ex-professional
members and some novice stars-Our Coach tries to keep us in line and we are
determined to bring the Medical Football World Cup back home!
"I leave with the team in the next fortnight to travel to LA
California- and I hope to provide an update of our progress when we return.
